Concept

The initial concept of making my digital artifact is I want to discover how Japanese Gangster culture has affected and inspired the game so heavily, how the game has changed the lifestyle and the knowledge, to understand more about the culture. BCM215: Digital Artefact – Learning Tetris

Idea and Concept

I started to play Tetris when I was 10 years old. I received an NDS from my parents as a
birthday present Tetris was the first video game I played on NDS. Tetris has always been one
my favourite games and it has accompanied me throughout my teen years. I can play the
video game on my iphone wherever I am and at whatever time. Tetris is now celebrating its
37-year anniversary and I would like to work on a project from a memorable childhood
experience.
So what has made Tetris so popular? My DA focuses on the impact of Tetris effect on our
everyday life, its fan culture, inspiration from the video game and some ethical issues arising
from the game.


Methodology
From the project pitch to the project beta and then to the final DA, I have carried out much
research, looking into news/media, academic texts and scholarly sources. I also went
through my lecture notes to find relevant resources to support my DA. This study also
includes my personal experience of playing Tetris and observations of other people playing
Tetris online and offline.

Background Research
When planning for my DA, I carried out some background research and found that Tetris is
one of the most influential games in the world. In particular, the Tetris effect has affected
our daily life. For example, parking in terms of inserting blocks, how to fit more stuff in the
suit case and how to fit in the boxes on the rows of supermarket shelves, etc.
I have also made reference to our weekly lecture readings and found that the lecture
readings in Week 6 “Histories of Internet Games and Play: Space, Technique & Modality”
about game spatiality and understanding game’s mechanics, its logical thinking and
problem-solving are relevant to the Tetris game.
Also the quotes in Week 8 reading “Watching People Is Not A Game: Interactive Online
Corporeality, Twitch.tv and Videogame Streams. Studies 17 (1)” are relevant. The classic
Tetris World Championship (CYWC) which was launched in 2010 is still one of the greatest
video game events with uncountable tournaments in the world.
Gandolfi: “But what distinguishes Twitch.tv from other video hosting and streaming
websites with videogame content, including YouTube.com, is the presence and participation
of the players and viewers.”
Consalvo: “With it’s strong reliance on participative engagement, even single-player games
become a social activity.”

Public Utility

My target audience are mainly gamers and game makers, patients, doctors, psychologists,
parents and of course, Tetris fans. The gamers will know why they enjoy and are affected by
the game. The game makers will have interest to know more about the characteristics and
fan cultures to improve future design of video games. The parents will know why the game
is so addictive and how to prevent the children from become addicted. The doctors and
psychologists will know more about the Tetris effect on their patients and what they can do
to help their patients.

Overall Trajectory
The development of my Digital Artefact (DA) was publicly available online on my WordPress
blog, YouTube and Twitter. I uploaded my Pitch, Beta and my 2-part mini series on YouTube
and I embedded the links to my Twitter page and WordPress blog. I have completed my final
DA and posted it on my WordPress blog and YouTube. I have also embedded a link on
Twitter to inform the public.

Changes and Iterations
I have received many comments from social media and from my teacher. I have adopted
most of them to improve my DA. These include further research on my own experience and
observations of the people around me so as to know the Tetris effect on us. I have added
the inspiration from Tetris so that people will know the popularity of Tetris. I have also
explored more on the contents of Tetris reviews, feedback and comments on social media
to enrich the fan culture content of my DA.

Project’s Success & Limitations
I have made a new insight into the video game industry. From the research, I know more
about the video game subculture, the collaboration of the game with fashion designers and
beauty companies, like Kanga Care, Moussy and MC2 Saint Barth. I also learned that making
a video game can be morally wrong. Gamifying slavery, like the Tetris Slave Game, trivializes
a serious time in history.
I have received feedback and comments from my WordPress blogs and from my 2-part mini-
series. The feedback was quite encouraging. The comments made by my peers and teachers
are so useful that I have made a great improvement in my final DA.
During the research process, I found that some of the information is outdated. For example,
the article mentioned that Tetris is celebrating its 30’s anniversary but in fact, it’s already 37
years old. I learned that when doing research, we have to carefully examine the date of
article so that we will not put false or outdated information in our production.

Finding Thoughts

The following report will be covering my Digital Artefacts research.

In this study, the analytical framework I used is a blog post where I have posted 3 blogs in total. In those blogs, I presented the main focus of my DA and went in depth also, the user interface was done through the comment section. There were many iterations in this study mostly because of the comment section. The first few iterations explored the different countries and the effect that Pubg has had on them. The second iteration was about the different age groups; the different kinds of effects that the game has on each of the age groups, what kind of people were playing Pubg and why they were playing it. Pubg is a first person shooting game to have more in depth sight about the whole genre FPS I will use the study conducted by Moore,C 2012 about the role of affect in the FPS shooting game and how it connects to my DA Pubg. I have finished a digital artefact to investigate a game called the Sims 4 for the subject BCM 215 Game Media. The reason I chose the Sims 4 is because I played the first season of this game, the Sims, when I was a kid. I have also played the season 2 and 3. I love the game since it allows players to design their unique characters with different personalities. Either digitalize their true selves or create a new “sim” on their own. Players can control the game characters as much as they want as well. BCM215 Part1 : welcome to the world of Gundam

This digital artifact, I am introducing the newest game of Gundam,

Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme Vs. Maxi Boost ON.

MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM EXTREME VS. MAXIBOOST ON

This game was release in April 25,2020, on the gaming platform PlayStation 4, and also available on PlayStation 5. It is a battle action game where you can control a gundam you like as a fighter to fight on the battle field.

Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme Vs. Maxi Boost ON is the newest game of the series : Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme Vs. In the next part of this digital artifact, I will introduce more about the history of this series of game. In this series they have the same play style for the gaming, with cooperation play mod for players to work together, agents bosses. And a verse mod for players to alternate their technique of the game with others, this mod is the main hit of it, 2 team with 2 player each fighting against each other, until one of the team have no more cost to lose, in the fight you can use all the skill you have to any kind of attack. And for more content, this series of game have release a ranking mod, players can fight for the highest title with of the game to show their strength.

In this newest version, Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme Vs. Maxi Boost ON have made some new change for the game to be more interesting and have a batter system for players to enjoy the game more. the most important thing to mention is the platform, this time the game are available on PlayStation 4 and 5, that mean the game have transplant to the new gaming system, it have batter picture quality, and faster program running speed, as a game having online battle as main hit, this is going to win the hearts of the people.

This version have increase more content to attract more people who are fans of Gundam, like new gundam animation series, every year there are new animation coming out, and this game can get the story into this game, since this game are collecting all the series of it. they put more character from the new animation for player chose to use, and the battle field from the series as a site for us to fight in, fans can enjoy using the one they like as one of the player. this version there are more than 36 different series are collected into the game, if anyone are a fans of this series you are going to be happy to see your favorite character active in the game.

In the next part, I am going to talk about what is the idea of the gundam series and how they see the future of human. There are a lot of implication in the story of every series, and makes me rethink about the future.
